About Me
I'm Ava Parvinnejad, a Tanbour teacher at the Darson Center. I've always enjoyed reading books and poetry, playing music for the elderly, and spending time with them. Many of my students have been seniors, and I've always loved talking with them and hearing their stories. I remember my mother reading books to my grandmother when she was elderly, and so I've always wanted to be able to read poetry and books to others. Now that my grandmother is no longer with us, I've decided to fill this role for your grandmothers and grandfathers online.
Teaching Method
The method chosen for these sessions to help promote the well-being and mental health of our beloved elderly is collaborative book reading. By collaborative book reading, I mean reading a book and discussing its content along with side activities such as listening to live music, reading poetry, and practicing memoir writing. Not only does this strengthen their memory and problem-solving skills, but it can also be a way to create a space for dialogue and social interaction. These sessions will be weekly, and we will also engage in other activities during them.
