About Me
I’m Sobhan, a PhD student in electrical engineering at the University of Alberta. Mathematics has always been an important part of my academic journey, but like many students, I also faced challenges in understanding certain mathematical concepts. Those experiences taught me that to truly grasp a topic, it is important to try different approaches until the concept becomes clear. Over time, my interest in mathematics grew, and it eventually became one of the main reasons I chose electrical engineering for my studies. Currently, in addition to my research activities, I work as a teaching assistant at the University of Alberta, where I support students in understanding course material. This experience has further strengthened my passion for teaching. To enhance my teaching skills, I have also completed two levels of the Graduate Teaching and Learning program at the University of Alberta. My goal in teaching is to share the strategies and methods I have used throughout my own academic journey to better understand mathematics and to help others make their learning process simpler and more accessible. If mathematics feels difficult or frustrating, don’t worry, we can work through it together and make it easier and more understandable.
Teaching Method
My teaching method is tailored to each student based on their level, goals, and learning style. I first try to understand the student’s strengths, weaknesses, and preferred way of learning and then adjust my teaching method to help them grasp concepts more easily. My teaching philosophy focuses on building students’ confidence and encouraging a genuine interest in solving more challenging problems. For this reason, I begin by emphasizing the importance of deep conceptual understanding and then support learning through simplified explanations, practical examples, and step-by-step problem solving.
